This is part 2 of my topic gratitude, in the first blog I covered the holistic benefits of being more grateful and how it can be transformative both personally and in your career (Read it here). This blog I'm going to focus on five simple steps on how to get started.
Firstly get a notebook.
Get a book that's dedicated to writing down what you're grateful for. Yes, you can just decide I'm gonna be more grateful and just do that throughout the day, but what I find is for most people, it's easier once you started doing it formally, at a set time of day, in a notebook, written down. It triggers those neurotransmitters more, expands that growth and therefore it becomes easier to do throughout the day.
Second one, choose a time of day.
A lot of people pick the morning and that really gets them started in a more positive frame of mind> But the end of the day can be beneficial too because you can be reflective on the day and see even if you think it hasn't been a great day where can you actually pick out things to be grateful for.
Thirdly, make an intention before you start.
Really feel the feelings of gratitude, don’t let it just be from your mind making a list of things, but really feel into it. That could be simply taking a minute or a few seconds to breathe in, take some deep breaths and particularly breathe into your heart area because that in itself triggers feelings of gratitude and contentment and love.
Fourthly, focus deeply on few things.
Focus on a few things rather than listing lots of things you are grateful for in a sort of a scattergun approach. Really just choose three things and go more deeply into what it is you're grateful for within those areas.
Lastly choose a range of things;
People in your life,
Things you have
But also really importantly that people often miss out is things about yourself;
Don't forget to include things you're grateful for for yourself, because as I said in part one that not only has an effect on you but it also does have an effect on those around you and your outer world.
So that's five simple steps to get started, to introduce more gratitude into your life and have feelings of happiness and contentment throughout your life.
