How to get started drinking more water

This is the second part of a two-part blog in my simple step series covering the topic of water and hydration (read the first part here).

In the first blog I just covered three reasons to make sure you're drinking enough water. And in this blog I'm going to cover a bit more including some ways that might help you to get started.
First though, I just wanted to touch on the fact that if you try and look for advice out there over how much water people should have, there isn't a simple answer. Partly because we're all different; how busy we are, how active we are, where in the world we live, how hot or not it is, whether we're male or female - these can all affect how much we need to consume. The other thing is it's not just about how much just pure water do we drink? But by eating freshly prepared foods you're also getting your water content.

So there isn't a clear-cut answer.

The very minimum seems to be aim for at least 1.2 litres, more so often for women it might be more about two litres, men two and a half litres. But if you're reading this and you feel like you're not drinking enough water and it's resonating with you, then it's something that's worth putting into practice, increasing and seeing how you feel as a result of doing that.

You can't really drink too much.

So if it's something that you think might be beneficial, then why not give it a go, see how you feel.

Before you get started though monitor how much you're currently drinking.
Is that a set amount of cups a day?
Do you know in litres?
Gauge where you're at at the moment so that you can monitor that you're having more.

So simple ways just to get started is;

  1. Set a routine.
Maybe before every meal you perhaps have a glass of water first, and that becomes your habit. Or first thing in the morning you have half a pint of water and that's a habit you establish. Then if you're aiming for two litres you're already a quarter of the way there before you have even started your day.
  1. Carry a bottle of water with you.
Make sure that everywhere you go you've always got a bottle of water with you. That's what I do, I literally have it here with me now, even when in the house or wherever I am I've got a bottle of water because it makes it really easy to just be sipping all day long.
  1. Use a large bottle.
Another option so that you know how much you're having could be to have a larger bottle, a 2-litre bottle, and carry that around with you and fill up your glass or whatever from that, so at the end of the day you can see how much you've had.

So it's simply perhaps picking one of those, whether it's a certain time of day you make sure you have more water, whether it's carrying around a bottle of water, whether it's monitoring how much you're having from a bigger amount.

Choose one and see how that goes with implementing that into your lifestyle.
