Today’s Thursday's Thought is about balance. We talk so much about having a balanced lifestyle, a good work-life balance, eating a balanced diet. The word comes up so often, but what does it really mean? It can be said as if it's a state to get to and then that's that's you sorted, that's you done you've got balance. But in reality balance requires adjustments... Even sitting up now, if I was standing or walking, my muscles are constantly having to adjust in order to keep that balance. Physiologically my body is responding to stimuli in order to keep homeostasis. And the same goes for mentally and emotionally; our thoughts and emotions change throughout the day and it's a constant response to what's going on internally, psychologically, but also what's happening externally and the circumstances we are in.
So although balance is a constant adjustment, here at Pura Vida Living with our clients and in our programs, we think of balance as a foundation. It's much easier to scoot out the way of obstacles or jump over something if you're you're striding through life, walking rather than feeling like you're standing on one leg juggling many balls. If something unexpected comes at you, which is inevitable in life, then you're far more likely to be knocked over if you haven't got that solid foundation. What do I mean by that? Really it's about taking an overview of the different areas of your life. It's easy to just focus on one thing. For example, maybe you've got a great exercise routine. But if that becomes obsessive or that's your only go-to response, if you're managing a lot of stress then it might be that there's something deeper that isn't being looked at. So look at what's going on mentally and emotionally as well as physically? Being able to look at all the different areas of your life is crucial. Commonly what we look at with clients is;
Being able to take an overview and have a balance through those different areas as well as mentally, physically and emotionally, is what we refer to as a foundation. Having that foundation to make adjustments from is so much easier to make and create balance.
